present time.

"it doesn't matter now, does it?" he asked while his fingers intertwine onto each other. his face was hard, but it softened when he asked the question, with a slight defeated tone in his voice. he was not even looking at her when he asked this question. he was looking far onto the horizon as the colors of the sky slowly fading and the rush of the crowd slowly diminished.

"no i guess it doesn't really. it's all in the past. look at where we are now." she replied, looking more confused  than confident after uttering those words.

"where are we exactly?" he asked, hopeful somehow.

"i don't know. we haven't been talking with each other for the longest time and here we are spending an evening together now, laughing and giggling. it's weird, somehow. it doesn't make any sense." she said while smiling.

"perhaps it doesn't have to make sense if we're comfortable with each other this way. i am. but, are you?" he asked. the wind was blowing softly now. he placed both his hands inside his jeans pockets. he never liked cold weather that much.

"i am... i don't know. i mean, i'm glad we're talking now. i really do. you have no idea how much i've been missing you, just talking to and with you like this but you know, things are still..." she trailed off because she couldn't find the right words to complete her sentence.

"not settled between the two of us?" he continued her sentence.

"something like that. i don't know. i mean, maybe it's all in my head you know. maybe i'm just thinking too much. but i do like this, this thing, this evening, this conversation that we're having right now. i miss this. i miss spending time with you like this you know." she said while looking at him. he didn't turn as if his gaze was aimed at something far ahead onto the horizon but she knew he was listening. she knew.

"i see. i guess. i don't know what i should reply to that. i guess, should we have another day like this again? you know, just to make things more, you know, comfortable between the two of us?" he asked. this time around, he turned to look at her.

"i don't mind if you don't mind." she replied back, smiling at him.

"i don't think i mind. i guess, whatever this unsettled thing between us, it will go off in time. it shouldn't be a barrier for the two of us. i mean, you and i, we've known each other for a while. we have so much history together and just to waste the history, such a shame. so i guess, you know.."

"i know, i know. i know what you mean." she replied, slowly nodding her head.

"the sky's turning dark. maybe we should make a move. shall we?" he smiled an extended his hand to her.

"let's go." she said, and reached out her hand to meet his.

they held hands while walking to his car having conversations like they've never stopped talking to each other for some time. this i miss, was what was running through their heads. why did we go through what we did? it wasn't even necessary both of them thought. i miss you, was what both of them felt. at that moment, both of them turned to each other and smiled. he brushed a hair away from her face and told her,

"i'm never gonna let you go again."

she smiled and tried her best trying to hold back her tears. she failed. he hugged her and at that instant, everything in the world didn't matter. everything that had happened in the past didn't matter.

the present, both of them thought, was what mattered most.

p.s: improvements.
