she entered the class. "the darkness has entered!" exclaimed Kei. we had a class with her when we were in semester 2. we didn't have much fun with her hence Kei's reaction. we were all anxious, fidgety, nervous even. she remembered almost all of us. she seemed excited to see all of us but we weren't feeling the same way, at least i wasn't. anyways, it was our first class with her this semester and instead of asking us to introduce ourselves, she made us answer these two (which i found to be profound) questions:
up from semester 2 until semester 6,
what, as a TESL student you have learnt?
as an individual, what have you learnt?
i heard my friends' answers and i heard my own when i spoke. most of us agreed that we have changed. as a TESL student, most of my friends expressed their increased confidence in speaking, organizing, managing time and money, practical, aspirations.
i told my classmates that i found myself to be stronger than i think i am. i am more capable than i give myself credit for. Cuna said she found it hard to work in groups as things could get personal. Dya, Ain, Lin and Ira talked about family and interdependency. i found that to be true. i thought about my own family and though i love the freedom i have when i'm away from them, i miss them a lot. Ain went on further by talking about death and how she's reminded of it after her dear friend had passed away from a car accident and how that made her want to be a better Muslim. Po and Jannah talked about friendships, the ups and downs, the losing and gaining friends. Nazif and Wakbe talked about being more focus in class.
truth is, if all of us were to sit down in a circle and talked about what all 21 of us had gone through with each other for the past 6 semesters together, they'd be drama: tears, shouts and laughters. all of us have grown up, matured, learned a lot of things about life, the good and the bad. the funny thing is, no matter how much we loathe each other, the whole class would stand united, together when we are "attacked by outside force" which had happened a few times. i may find my classmates to be extremely annoying, overly dramatic at times but honestly without them, i don't think i'd be able to learn about life, or i'd be able to know about how life functions, or how fun life can be. they help me get through things. i can't believe that in another 2 semesters, all of these will be over and all of us will go our separate ways. i don't know if i'd be able to live with the idea of not seeing the same faces i have been seeing for 4 years.
looking back at my life with them, i have learnt a lot from them, directly and indirectly. i learned about the value of honesty, friendship. i learnt about drama, fights and arguments, tears even, i discovered love with them, and hopefully everlasting friendship.
another 2 more semesters.
p.s: growing older.
please, lets all go for another round of extraordinary meeting at KFC. or candles pon xpe. :')
